Lady Cards Beat ES Tigers
The first round of the MRVC West Tournament held at CHS pitted the Lady Cards vs the Excelsior Springs Tigers on Tuesday, Dec. 14. It was a low scoring affair with the Cards up 7-5 after the first quarter. The scoring pace picked up a bit with the score 17-15 Cards at the half. The third quarter found the Cards getting hot going on a 16 to 5 run. The fourth quarter was also dominated by the Cards 14-5. The final score was 47-25 Lady Cards. The Lady Cards had three players in double figures, Riley Heerdink (12), Paige Gillund (13) and Mercedez Brown (10). The Cards sunk three 3-pointers and went 8 of 14 from the line. The Tigers had four 3’s and went 3 of 9. The Tigers were led by Mallery Millsap, a junior, with 11 points. Ind. Stats: Heerdink (12/0/6/7), Gillund (13/3/0/0), Brown (10,0,0/0), Campbell (2,0,0/0), Wilson (6,0,0/2), Potter (0,0,0/1), Wishard (4,0,2/4). The Cards will face the 5-1 Harrisonville Wildcats on Thursday in the semifinals. The Wildcats beat Odessa 64-41 on Tuesday.
Lady Cards Battle Cats
It was an interesting game. The Lady Cards took on the Harrisonville Wildcats in the second round of the MRVC Tournament at CHS on Thursday, Dec. 16. The turnovers and fouls abounded. The score stayed close each quarter. It was 7-7 after the first quarter. The Cats pulled away by six at the break 19-13. The Cards stayed within four points until the final minute. As usual it was very physical with bodies flying. Three Cards fouled out starting with Briley Wishard with 2:06 left and the score 28-26 Cats. Skyte Wilson and Riley Heerdink quickly followed. Mercedez Brown was also playing with four fouls. The final score was 32-26 Wildcats. The Cats were led by Madison Johnson with 15 points. The Wildcats shot 9 of 22 from the line. Briley Wishard led the Lady Cards with 10 points. The Cards shot 7 of 11 from the line. Ind. Stats: Wishard (10,0,4/7), Potter (5,0,3/4), Wilson (1,0,0/1), Brown (4,0,0/0), Gillund (2,0,0/0), Heerdink (4,0,0/0). This puts the Lady Cats in the Championship game vs Warrensburg and Clinton vs P. Hill in the third place game.
Lady Cards Capture 3rd in MRVC Tourney
The Lady Cards played the P. Hill Chicks on Friday, Dec. 17 for third place in the 2021 MRVC Tournament. The game started out with both teams sinking 3’s and the fight was on. The Chicks led 10-6 after the first quarter and 21-16 at the break. Briley Wishard lost some playing time due to foul trouble. The Lady Cards shots started to fall and they won the third quarter, 14-7. Fouls, turn-overs and travel calls seemed to be the theme of the game. In the fourth quarter the pace picked up even more as the Cards slowly pulled away winning the contest 50-39. Ava Potter and Mercedez Brown led the Lady Cards, each getting 10 points. The Chicks were led by Aby Widhalm with 17 points. The Cards made four 3-pointers and went 14 of 27 from the line. The Chicks had two 3’s and were 13/23. This win puts the Lady Cards record at 4-5. They play Sherwood on Monday, Dec. 20. Ind. Stats: Heerdink (8,0,2/4), Gillund (9,3,0/0), Brown (10,1,1/2), Wilson (7,0,5/7), Potter (10,0,6/12), Wishard (6,0,0/2).
Wildcats win the title: The Harrisonville Wildcats clawed their way to the MRVC title by first beating Odessa 63-41, then they beat the Lady Cards 32-26 and the Warrensburg Tigers 47-32.
