Have I Got A Line For You!

Max (Schnauzer) and I took a walk up Main Street last night. We passed Bishop Gunstocks old office. It was in a building designed by my great-grandfather Kelly for my great-grandfather White. Before Bishops moved in, he used it as a furniture store. He also sold pottery that his brother sent up from Arkansas. My Aunt kept some of these pieces at her home and I always thought the spackled jars were ugly, but I’ve been told they’re collector’s items now. I thought about John Bishop who founded Bishop’s and wondered how many people remember when Warsaw was the Gunstock Capital of the World. Both John and his brother Sam served in what was called “The Great War” (WW1)and served overseas. When they returned the gunstock factory was launched and it grew beyond what must have been their wildest dreams. Their gunstocks were known around the world and the factory gave work to many people who were very fine craftsman. Bishops closed a long time ago and little remains of what was once a vibrant company, but Bishop’s big family home still stands at the corner of Main and State. These are just little memories and it was the walk that shook them loose.

Here’s a swell idea. The Biden administration is considering $450,000 payments to families who were separated at the southern border. The migrant families say they suffered lasting psychological damage. Okay….so you sneak into a country illegally, putting yourself and your kids in danger, then sue that country. UNBELIEVABLE! Go try that stunt in Canada and see how far you get. Our own citizens who commit crimes get separated from their families. Does that mean every prisoner can claim damages from being separated from theirs? What an upside down world! These folks who think free is coming their way, might be in for a big surprise. There won’t be any money left because we’ll all be broke paying for these programs. At least we’ll all starve together.

The big climate change summit was held in Glasgow, Scotland. Politicians and celebrities from around the world attended, including Prince Charles and Leonardo DiCaprio. It took over 400 private aircraft to get them there. I’m not sure what qualifies these celebrities as experts in climate change, but Leo did drive a little yellow Volkswagen to a movie premier. He said it was to promote a “greener earth.” Isn’t it amazing amid all the extravagance of this camp they’ll demand more money from the rest of us (carbon tax) to solve their perceived problem. I found it interesting that this anti-gun crowd all arrived in Glasgow with bodyguards who had guns. They’re against a border wall but live in homes surrounded by walls. They say sea levels are rising at an “alarming rate” but gobble up waterfront property. This is the same bunch that would have us eating grasshopper burgers instead of beef to lower CO2 emissions. These celebrities have a right to spend their money however they want, but it’s a bit hypocritical to cry rivers about the planet and leave a bigger carbon footprint than many small towns. Who knows where this end and when the “breathing tax” will get implemented. The French Revolution and the phrase, “Let them eat cake” comes to mind.

Enough of these musings. Take care of yourself and lets all speed on to a useful day.
