Have I Got A Line For You!

Next month will mark the 58th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination. Last week President Biden said he was going to delay the release of long classified documents about that tragic day, blaming it on….you guessed it Covid-19. The records were scheduled to be released on December 15. They’ve known this deadline was coming since 2018 and can’t meet it? If the government ran like a competent company, they’d all be fired for their incompetence. President Trump de-classified some of the documents during his term. There was nothing earth shattering, but it was mildly interesting. The secretive Soviets were shaken by the assassination. The FBI’s J. Edgar Hoover wanted closure from Oswald by claiming he had sole responsibility. For some reason the CIA is still spooked about releasing everything, even after more than half a century. It does make you wonder what’s in those back files, doesn’t it? Shortly before he died President Ford (Who served on the Warren Commission) said, “We were never convinced that Oswald acted alone, however, there were pressures from the FBI to bury the matter.” Meanwhile we are supposed to go on thinking that one bullet did all the damage, pin-balled around in the car and landed on Governor Connally’s gurney. What really happened? We’ll probably never know, but what does it matter now? We can’t go back and undo the past.

Speaking of the President, Uncle Joe says he doesn’t have a near term answer for sky high gas prices. These prices aren’t accidental. Much like the border crisis, they don’t want solutions. They can’t force people into electric cars without high fuel costs or push open borders without….well opening the border. This whole mess is a simple lesson in cause and effect. Pipeline shutdown, high gas prices. Print money and pass it out, inflation. Instruct Border Patrol not to enforce the border, immigration crisis. Support Defund The Police, crime rate through the roof. Increase unemployment, people sit at home. If these policies are so good, why do many of them have threats behind them for compliance? Sounds like socialism 101 to me. Ask any ordinary Venezuelan citizen how that’s worked out for them?

Let’s jump to something else. How about Thanksgiving? It’s just around the corner and the news has been full of stories about an impending turkey shortage. I remember one Thanksgiving when I lived in Denver and was invited to the neighbors. They were Greek and put lamb on the table instead of turkey. It wasn’t bad stuff and I especially liked it with mint jelly. They also made Greek coffee in a little copper pot. It was hotter than Hades, strong and served in espresso cups. Anyway, it was a different kind of dinner with nice people who I lost touch with years ago. Wish I hadn’t, but sometimes life happens as we change orbits.

Hang in there and if you can’t have turkey for Thanksgiving have ham. Not lamb. And as Gomer Pyle used to say, “Shaz-am!” Take care of yourself old buddy.
