Birthplace: Plattsburg, MO
Years in Clinton: 27+ yrs.
Family: Husband - David Maggi; Sons – Zac (Susan) and Matt (Kirsten); 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters
Occupation: City Administrator of the City of Clinton
Education: B.A. in Public Administration – Public Management, Avila University
Favorite Childhood Memory: The best memory is my Dad taking me out to dinner for each of my birthdays, from 8 yrs. old to 18 yrs. old – just Dad and me (he did the same with my sister). It was so exciting, on my 8 th birthday, when Dad ordered me a Shirley Temple at the revolving restaurant at the top of the Downtown KC Holiday Inn. Afterwards, we saw It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World at the
Uptown Theater.
First Job: When I was about 10 years old, my sister and I had to trim, with hand-clippers, around headstones at Green Lawn Cemetery, to get ready for Memorial Day. Our parents owned the funeral home, so we were cheap labor at the cemetery! My first “real” job was with the City of Kansas City
Health Dept. I promoted cancer screening programs in the inner-city.
Favorite Band: Rock – Bob Seger; Jazz – the 1963 band with Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos
Jobim and Astrud Gilbert on vocals.
What do you value most in your friends? Beliefs and principles that express compassion, generosity and
equality.
Hobbies: Listening to live jazz, sports, reading and having fun with my family.
I hope I never have to: Sing by myself in public.
I have never been able to: Sing, play the piano very well, sew…and the list goes on and on.
Most embarrassing moment? I was in a store, and my husband was driving around the parking lot while waiting to pick me up at the door. It was raining. I saw a silver car pull up. I ran to the car, opened the door, jump in and sat down – in one smooth move. I looked at the driver. It wasn’t David. It was a very shocked, elderly man. I was out of the car in about 2 seconds, after I said, “I’m in the wrong car!” I looked around in the rain. As David pulled up, he was shaking his head. I got in the car, and he said, “I saw the whole thing.”
If I won the lottery I would: Make sure our family would always be financially secure, and I would create
a nonprofit foundation to provide assistance for peoples’ basic needs.
Future Goal: Continue employment for several more years, then enjoy spending a lot of time with my husband and the rest of my family.
What is the best thing about living in Clinton? The amenities, the proximity to Kansas City, but most of all, the many, many compassionate and generous people.
What is your greatest fear? That hatred and violence are becoming acceptable.
Which person do you admire the most? There are many: FDR, Frances Perkins, Dietrich Bonhoeffer,
Rosa Parks, MLK Jr., Billie Jean King, Jimmy Carter, L.P. Cookingham and….my husband David.
Words to live by: Charles Dickens’s poem, “These Thing Shall Never Die.” It was later set to music.
Google it…you will be glad you did!
