Get To Know Clinton, MO

Posted

BIRTHPLACE: Clinton
YEARS IN CLINTON: 23
FAMILY: I am mother to possibly the weirdest two-year-old in town and I love it. She is a 4th generation only child and is lucky to have mom, grandma, and great grandma all within a two-mile radius. Her father puts up with both our shenanigans and deserves to be sainted for it.
OCCUPATION: Downtown Superhero (Executive Director Clinton Main Street)
EDUCATION: BA in History from Washburn University, master’s in museum studies from Johns Hopkins.
FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY: Visiting the Henry County Museum for the very first time with my parents. The carved chain was my favorite exhibit.
FIRST JOB: Working with my dad installing satellite and working on antennas. Anyone who remembers the big black truck with Gaylord’s Fine Tune all over it likely remembers me at a young age tailing my father.
FAVORITE BAND: AC/DC!
WHAT DO YOU VALUE MOST IN YOUR FRIENDS? Loyalty and love.
HOBBIES: Baking, crafting, canning, and exploring.
I HOPE I NEVER HAVE TO: Move back to Iowa.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO: Snap, my fingers just make no sound.
MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT?
Too many to name, but the number of times I have tripped or rolled my ankle and landed with my backside in the air while walking on the Square is definitely embarrassing.
IF I WON THE LOTTERY I WOULD:
Buy the Bev’s building and rehab it to be a community incubator space and apartments. I would put a little bar on the second-floor balcony and spend my days up there watching the Square.
FUTURE GOAL:
Be the source for downtown information. I’d also like to organize my craft space, but I don’t think that’s a realistic goal.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT LIVING IN CLINTON?
The people! We have some of the most talented, amazing, and caring people here and many do not realize it. I see people helping each other and building up our community everyday and I love it.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR? Dinosaurs. Movies have shown us time and again if you bring them back they will eat us during our most vulnerable moments.
WHICH PERSON DO YOU ADMIRE THE MOST? Since starting my position at Main Street I have been very lucky to have several great mentors. Barry G, Mark D and David L are my top three however. Each has a very different style but all work harder than anyone realizes to make this town a great place to live.
WORDS TO LIVE BY: Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.
