Cyclist Travels Open Road And Katy Trail

Posted

Meet Mary, a true adventurer from Southern California. Mary is about to turn seventy. Yes, I asked and she was quick to answer. She recently spent a month and a half on the KATY Trail taking side trips and enjoyed the tent camping along the way. She did say the recent rains were a bit annoying. Mary was born in New York but has spent the last 40 years in California. Since retirement as a lawyer she has hit the open road (and trails). She travels with a truck and small camper as her base but she bikes and tent camps about every place she goes. The last two years she has been on the road, only returning home for about two weeks. Before this trip to the mid-west she spent two years in Mexico.
I asked her why? She explained, “After retirement I decided to go back to some of the things I really enjoyed in my childhood; camping, biking and being outdoors.” (She has sure done that!)
Any risks traveling alone? She said her children worry about her some but Mary said she feels safe. She is picky about where she camps and always has pepper spray and alarms near by. We (Irene and I) noticed she uses a lot of solar lights and such.
She is a very interesting and inspiring lady. Happy camping and biking Mary and thanks for exploring the KATY Trail.
