The Cardinals watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 7-0 loss to Summit Christian Eagles on Tuesday, May 17. It was the semifinal game in the Class 4 District 12 tournament held in Harrisonville. The Eagles scored two in the 1st inning, two in the 2nd, and three in the 3rd, and that was enough because the Cardinal hitters struggled only getting one hit in the contest. Shields lasted two and a third innings, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out three. He got solid relief help from Jake Wirsig. The Summit hitters got eight hits and collected five walks. Summit Christian did not commit a single error, the Cards two. In the other semifinal game, the Nevada Tigers beat P. Hill 5-0. The Eagles went on to play the Nevada Tigers for the District Championship and won 4-2.
