Of all the world’s languages, English is one of the most difficult to learn. This is due to the many different facets and rules. English sounds (phonemes) are difficult as to how a word is spelled, compared to how it is spoken, e.g., how the “a” is pronounced in cat, late, and wasp.
Homonyms are words that are spelled differently, with a different meaning, but pronounced the same, e.g., to, two, and too. Even in past tense, there are weird rules. Past tense for teach is taught, while past tense for preach is preached. These types of rules make it difficult for any
beginner to learn. There are also words so nearly alike, they can be confusing. A story is brought to mind of a mother who was helping her young son to spell two words, conscious and conscience. Asking her son if he knew the meaning of the two words, he said, “Sure. Conscious is when you are aware of something, and conscience is when you wish you weren’t.” This may bring a smile, but remember that God gave us all a conscience. Listen to it, and you may avoid some pitfalls (1 Timothy 1:18-19 NIV)
We are officially in the very middle of summer. Some in our church family are on vacations, with a few others being stricken with COVID. Our prayers go forth to those traveling and those suffering from illness. School will be starting soon, and our evening youth group will once again start meeting in September.
Due to our minister’s family being hit with COVID, Bro James was unable to be with us again last Sunday. Ken Jones graciously filled the pulpit for us with a message from 1 Peter 1:3- 9. These few passages are filled with encouragement and wisdom. We can have grace and peace, with a new inheritance in heaven that is protected for us by God, through our faith. Peter tells us that our faith is of greater worth than gold. We may suffer grief and trials, but this will prove our faithfulness. Through our belief, we will receive the goal, which is our salvation.
Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton. Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 AM, and the morning worship service is at 10:30. Our Wednesday evening Bible study is suspended for the summer. Our minister is James McFarland (office phone # 660-890-0252), and our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org, where you will also find a link to access our Facebook page. We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.

“May The Work I’ve Done Speak For Me”
Luk 1:13-17 (KJV)
We are servants of the Lord and it is our job to make ready a people for the coming of the Lord.
John, known as John the Baptist, who was
Born to Zacharias and Elisabeth was a great person. He had to bring about change in the people from the Old Testament and Moses’s law and they did not baptize.
To grace and the New Testament and water baptisms. Where the law covered it in the Old Testament, in the New Testament individuals would be baptized.
We have to have the voice of God in our messages to touch people’s heart. As it is the voice of God that pricks our hearts.
John’s preaching was so effective that people came from the city to hear him preach. He also baptized them in the Jordan River.
When John was in prison he sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he was the one who was to come. Perhaps he wasn’t absolutely sure, but he did baptize Jesus and he saw the dove come down upon Jesus’s head.
Being a witness to that, he had to know Jesus was the one, but because of doubt that set in, he asked his disciples to go and ask Jesus. Jesus didn’t give an answer, he instead healed many. Then he told the disciples to go back and tell what he had witnessed
He told the disciples “ May the work I’ve done speak for me. Jesus let his work speak for him.
Mark 6:22-24
The woman wanted John’s head cut off because he reprimanded her for being with a another man. Mar 6:18 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
Mar 6:19 (KJV)
John had the spirit of Elijah. He came to paved the way. God sends us to do the same. May the work we do speak for us.
God Bless.

Millions of people today proudly proclaim they are “spiritual, but not religious.” They consider the church to be a man-made institution not worthy of their time and attention. These “spiritual, but not religious” folks want to distance themselves from the church and its rules, regulations, and especially its doctrines that don’t match up with their personal beliefs or lifestyles.
Ever since Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, people have chafed at being told what’s right and what’s wrong; what to do and not do. People want to choose for themselves what they “feel” is right, and what they “feel” is wrong. They think each person should be allowed to establish their own “doctrines”, and decide for themselves what is right and wrong for them. Life is so much easier that way.
Unfortunately for the “spiritual but not religious” crowd, that’s not God’s way. Jesus Christ established His church for us and for our benefit. It is where the Law and the Gospel are proclaimed. The Law tells us what God demands of us; It works contrition in us. The Gospel is what Jesus Christ did for us to satisfy God’s demands. Through Word and Sacrament, it creates and strengthens faith in us and makes us Holy and righteous in God’s sight, for Jesus’ sake.
The church is not the enemy. As followers of Christ, it’s our privilege and responsibility to be a part of His church while here on earth. Come to church this Sunday. It is a blessing, not a burden. There is no other place where you can be sure to find God waiting for you with his gifts of grace, forgiveness and faith unto life everlasting. Amen.

7-24-22: Come and be blessed as we worship the Lord. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Mrs. Gail Perrymann on her birthday and with Brynlei Forbes on her 6th birthday. Gary Vass and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Chad Pollett's sermon was from Philemon1:1-9. In this passage Paul was writing to Philemon from prison. Philemon was a good friend and fellow Christian worker. He had started a church in his own home. Paul always prayed for this friend in good or bad times. Paul humbly praised Philemon for his love, joy, and encouragement he has given him and all the believers in Christ. Paul encouraged him to continue to spread the Gospel with the love he has for Christ. Have a great week.

We are people of faith and the body of Christ.
We come to worship this morning to feel His refreshing presence and seek his truth and what is right and good.
We wish John and Peg a happy anniversary! Rev. Dane read a thank-you note for our donation to the Ukraine as they continue to fight for democracy for all of us. Mary Chapman reported that she had a great birthday WEEK that was full of fun and an abundance of love! Many plans are being made for our church's 150th celebration on September 18th and for our annual Oktoberfest on Oct. 15th.
We are brothers and sisters together in our faith with the Orthadox, Catholic and Protestant churches. We are united in knowing that there is a living God and he is alive within us. Our offerings are a statement of helping and giving generously to those who are in need. We keep the fire going within us to bring justice and peace into the world and have a direct prayer connection to God.
The parable about the rich man whose land produced an abundant harvest, reminds us that things can change quickly. The man used this abundance as a means of control and only for himself. It ends with God telling the man that it is fools who store things only for themselves, for they are not rich toward God. It seems to be human nature at times to build false security with our abundance rather than give to God and to those who have need here and now.
We may be little like the rich man with all of our abundance. It is easy to set ourselves up with more and more. But there will come a day when all of our abundance is gone and our lives are over. An important question is, did we share this with others or will we wake up too late after we have kept it all to ourselves?
We are not supposed to control everything, but we are to give generously as we gather our own abundance. And as faithful people, we are to open our doors and welcome all to come in.
The good news is His unmerited gift of grace is given to each of us. We boldly say, "Once we were no people, but now we are God's people." There is nothing that stands between us and God. No one can define our faith, No one else can stand and mediate for us between right and wrong. It is between us and God.
