Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Mr. Tom helped Mason McNeely ring the church bell at 9:45 to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
Our prayer list includes Patty Dump’s father, Paul Diaz’s father, Debby and Clint Land, Sondra Short, Millie Redding, Amber and Patrick Dittmer and Brecklynn, and Dave Burson. Prayers for less violence in our world and an end to the tension caused by political differences, our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: Several from here attended the ice cream supper at Windsor UMC last evening. And look forward to attending the Eldorado UMC Ice Cream Supper next Saturday Evening 4 to 7 pm. We try to be conservative about what we pray for, but Lord we could use some rain. Carol Lane shared Snickerdoodle cookies for pre-church fellowship this morning. Mason Keller and Shooter Price lit the altar candles at the beginning of our service today. Special Music: “I Love You This Much” was shared by Verna Walters. Patty Dump and grandson are home from a trip to Florida to visit Patty’s father and family. She told of their experience flying; during the computer shut down. Our best news is that Debby Land was able to return home from rehab. in Bolivar, Mo. Steve Siercks and Shelby Bicknell told of their enjoying the bounty from gardens this season. We were pleased to have Donna Brock and Shooter Price as guests today. Brylee Keller and Jackie Spratt served as ushers collecting the offering this morning before going downstairs for Sunday school. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church. We try to have a little fun as well as Praise the Lord during our church experience. In that spirit we would invite you to be our guest any Sunday morning at 10:00, come dressed as you are comfortable, bring the children for Sunday School during the service, and receive a blessing for your effort.

On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley delivered the 5th message in the series ‘Pray Like This’ titled “Our Daily Bread”. Pastor Pat began with speaking about worry. Many of us worry about many things that never actually happen. So how do we win over our worries? Seek God, for He is faithful and will provide all we need. When we pray for our daily bread this day, we should remember that God cares about what we need and that He is a giving God. In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches us to pray to acknowledge God, His goodness and our need to depend on Him. God delights in giving to us, especially to those who seek Him. He calls us to live in a trusting relationship with Him. While He knows what we need, He wants us to choose to depend on Him. Jesus reminds us to have a heart of dependence and to pray for others, in addition to ourselves, seeking His Kingdom first. Jesus is the bread of life and all who call on Him will have salvation and live forever. If you worry, ask God for what you need. Seek Him and remember His faithfulness. Trust in Jesus!

Sometimes we feel weak and lack trust. Jesus offers us words of encouragement. Step out in faith as you walk through your day. Keep your focus on Jesus your Savior. He will guide you. He never fails. The anthem this week was “Hush! Somebody’s Callin’ My Name” played by organist Gay Smith. Rev. Nancy Gillard titled her message Excelsior. 1 Thessalonians 1:10 was her scripture reference.
We continue to collect old prescription glasses and Best Choice labels as a mission project for the Festival of Sharing. The “Dresses for Little Girls in Africa” sewing project has come to an end. A sizing and packing day was held on Thursday, July 25. The garments have been mailed and will be distributed at a later date. Look for a total number in the future.
Next Sunday’s Meet & Eat Fellowship after worship will be at Clinton Country Club. Make plans to come eat and fellowship with old and new friends.

“The World is Full of Leprosy”
Leprosy: a chronic, mildly infectious disease, affecting the peripheral nervous system, skin, and nasal mucosa and variously characterized by ulcerations, tubercular nodules, and loss of sensation that sometimes leads to traumatic amputation of the anesthetized part.
If you compare leprosy to sin, neither is good. Leprosy separates people from each other, sin separate people from God.
Both can claim your life. God has used both to humble people.
He used Leprosy to bring a blessing to his people in 2Kings 7:3
2Ki 7:3-6.
The four men shared this information with the king, and he sent men out to ensure that it wasn’t a trap. The men who had leprosy were blessed to eat and the people they told were blessed by the spoils of the Syrians that fled.
God can use your illness to help someone else out of a bad situation. When God takes you through something, you are to walk through it and get past it. Pray about it, and read his word to get through it.
When we go through the shadow of death, it is a shadow. Shadows can’t hurt you. (Psalms 23:4)
The Lord used the Leprosy on Naaman to humble him.
Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.
2Ki 5:10-11.
Naaman wanted to be healed his way, but after his servant spoke to him, he went to the Jordan and did what he was instructed to do, and he was healed. Washing in the Jordan was a humbling experience though he did receive healing.
God used Leprosy as punishment to Marion when she challenged her brother Moses. She was sent out of the camp for a week to live alone until she was made clean. After Moses interceded for her. Be careful how you treat God’s servants.
The Lord struck king Jeroboam with Leprosy. It says in,
1Ki 13:4-6.
Uzziah was stricken with leprosy while holding a censer, when he became furious with the priest. He kept the leprosy until his death. (2Chronicles 26:19-21).
God healed lepers and only one, who was Samaritan came back to say thank you.
(Luke 17:11-19) God can heal leprosy and sin.

Come join us each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for worship service and be blessed. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin. We rejoiced with Mrs. Gail Perrymann on her birthday and with Pastor Joshua and Rebecca Sowell on their wedding anniversary. Randy Vogt and Lonny Bramell collected the offering.
Rev. Steve Sowell filled in for Pastor Joshua Sowell to bring the message. The scripture passage from his sermon was from 1Corinthians 13: 1-13. (“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”) When we believe, have faith, knowledge, and abide in Jesus Christ, then the Holy Spirit will guide us in these qualities so that we may glorify Him. Have a blessed week.
