Cards Fall to ‘Jackets’ in MRVC
The #8 seeded Clinton Cards were playing the #1 seeded Center Yellowjackets on Monday, Dec. 13 at Center in the MRVC Tournament. In this situation you know the #8 seed would have a tough time but you hope they could put up a good fight and they did. The Cards lost 79-43, but believe me they did put up a fight. The Cards were still playing short handed and most teams have a clear height advantage. The Jackets got out to a fast start leading 27-6 in the first quarter. The Cards put up a decent number of shots but were not able to get them to fall. Both teams used a man-to-man defense. The Jackets also used a lot of high pressure which caused many Cardinal turnovers. The very quick Jackets scored 12 points from stealing inbound passes. The Cards outscored the Jackets in the 2nd quarter 17-15 making it 42-23 Jackets at the half. The Cards could not get enough stops or drops and the third quarter ended 71-33. The Cards have now loss 22 straight games to the Yellowjackets. The Cards will take on the Oak Grove Panthers in the second round at 5 p.m., Thursday night in the Aux. Gym.

The CHS Cards could not stay with the Oak Grove Panthers in the second round of the MRVC Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 16. The game was being played at Center in South KC. The Cards were nearly full strength with only Gage Mantonya still unable to dress. The Panthers got off to a blistering start leading 25-12 after the first. Xzavier Ray, coming off the bench, got six for the Cards in the quarter but the Panthers answered with four 3-pointers to pull away. It was 38-21 Panthers at the half. The Cards won the third quarter 15-8 but it was not enough as Oak Grove came back winning the 4th quarter 18-10. The final score was 64-46 Panthers.
