Bringing Warmth One Coat At A Time

Posted

With plummeting temperatures and an early snow, this year’s annual Keep The Kids Warm Community Coat Drive could not come at a better time! Many of you will remember this drive was started by Banks Motors six years ago with a focus to “Keep the Kids Warm”. During that time they collected and distributed over 1600 coats as well hundreds of pairs of gloves, scarves and hats. There is a changing of the guard this year as Rent It 2 Own It has taken over the project. Donna West, sales manager at Rent It 2 Own It and new program organizer, had originally reached out to see if she could aid in the drive, and was happy to take over once previous organizer Rita Barbee announced her desire to retire from the program. This year’s drive is off to a great start with Banks Motors donating 20 coats and some of them are already going to aid children in the Bright Futures Program. If you have new or gently used coats, hats, scarves and gloves, this is an excellent time to clean out the closet and help do some good in our community. Donna would like to remind everyone that the high school and older middle school children often have the most need and are under served as they require adult sizes and most things donated are youth size. Donations can be dropped off at Rent It 2 Own It, 210 S 2nd Street, during business hours, which are 9 AM - 6 PM Monday through Friday and 9 AM -5 PM on Saturdays. Anyone who donates will receive a coupon for a new rental!
